In a tightly contested match, Barcelona secured a narrow victory over Sevilla, thanks to an unfortunate own goal from Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos. This win propelled Barcelona to the top of the La Liga table, surpassing Girona and Real Madrid, who were scheduled to face each other the following day.

Barcelona employed an exceptionally attacking formation, fielding an unconventional midfield trio of Gavi, Ilkay Gundogan, and Raphinha. Their aggressive approach nearly paid off early in the game when Raphinha, playing in an unfamiliar central midfield role, delivered a sharp pass to Joao Felix on the left side of the penalty area. However, Felix’s well-struck shot was thwarted by Sevilla goalkeeper Orjan Nyland.

While Raphinha was effective in the attacking third, his discomfort in the defensive phase was evident. A misplaced pass by Raphinha in the defensive third almost led to trouble, with Ivan Rakitic, a former Barcelona player, unleashing a powerful 20-yard effort that was expertly saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen.

In the 21st minute, Barcelona came close to taking the lead as Felix received a precise through pass from Joao Cancelo. With only the goalkeeper to beat, Felix’s strike rattled the crossbar.

The first half continued with both teams exchanging chances. Dodi Lubebakio forced Ter Stegen into a smart save at the near post, while Raphinha saw his volleyed effort collected by Nyland.

Raphinha’s involvement in the game was cut short in the 35th minute due to a suspected muscle injury.

Barcelona gained control in the second half, with star striker Robert Lewandowski becoming increasingly involved in the proceedings. However, Lewandowski was denied a goal in the 55th minute by a brilliant last-ditch block from Juanlu Sanchez.

Despite enjoying possession, Barcelona struggled to test Nyland significantly, and in the 73rd minute, Sevilla had a chance to take the lead. Rakitic rushed to the near post to meet a cross from Erik Lamela, but the Croatian couldn’t keep his header on target.

Rakitic’s missed opportunity served as a wake-up call for Barcelona. Just minutes later, they capitalized on an unfortunate incident involving Sergio Ramos, who inadvertently scored an own goal. Lamine Yamal headed the ball across the goal, and it deflected off Ramos’ knee and into the net.

This was an unfortunate turn of events for Ramos, who had been having an exceptional game until that point.
