Crystal Palace chairman Steve Parish has officially announced that Michael Olise, a target for Chelsea, has inked a fresh four-year contract with the Premier League team.
According to information from the PA news agency, Chelsea had initially reached an agreement to pay the £35 million release clause for the talented France Under-21 winger. However, recent developments suggest that Olise has opted to extend his commitment to Crystal Palace.
Parish conveyed the news on Thursday, tweeting, “I’m thrilled to announce that @m.olise has chosen to solidify his future with Crystal Palace and has signed a new four-year agreement with the club.”
Olise’s transfer speculations had linked him to a lucrative move to one of Palace’s London rivals. He had a prior stint at this rival club during the early stages of his career before transitioning to Manchester City and subsequently Reading, where he eventually made his mark in the senior squad.
This decision comes as a setback for Chelsea, who had intended to include Olise in their summer spending spree. Their transfer activity included acquiring players like Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez, Nicolas Jackson, and Christopher Nkunku for substantial sums. Nonetheless, with the loss of club legend Wilfred Zaha to Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray during this transfer window, Crystal Palace has been compelled to strengthen their offensive options.
