Manchester City suffered but still managed to win on Saturday, defeating Newcastle 1-0 in a match of the 2nd round of the Premier League. Just three days after winning the UEFA Super Cup, the cityzens delivered a less convincing performance where physical fatigue was evident.
The only goal of the match came in the 30th minute. Phil Foden broke through the right wing, delivered a low cross to Julián Álvarez who had time and space to take a shot and find the back of the net for the magpies.
In the second half, Newcastle increased the pressure on City’s defense, but failed to create problems for Ederson. On the other hand, the cityzens had some opportunities to extend their lead, but Erling Haaland had an uninspiring night and missed three chances to score.
In the end, Manchester City secured their second victory in the Premier League, sharing the top spot with Brighton. However, Brighton holds the advantage in goal difference. Meanwhile, Newcastle dropped their first points after starting the season with a home victory.
