Third time’s the charm! Chelsea finally secured their first victory of the 2023/2024 Premier League season after hosting Luton Town on Thursday night at Stamford Bridge, resulting in a 3-0 defeat for the visiting team.
The common denominator in Mauricio Pochettino’s team’s goals was Raheem Sterling. He scored the opening goal at the 17th minute with a beautiful individual play. Sterling received the ball on the right side of the Blues’ attack, pierced through Luton Town’s defense in the penalty area, and fired a cross-shot, leaving Belgian goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski with no chance.
The second goal came in the second half, with Malo Gusto crossing from the right side to the 11-meter area, where Sterling appeared unmarked to shoot the second goal for the Blues as he pleased.
Sterling himself provided the assist for the third goal, after a pass from Enzo Fernández. He sent a right-wing cross to Nicolas Jackson, who sealed the final score at 3-0 in the 75th minute.
