Monza defeats Empoli 2-0 in the early match of the second matchday of Serie A. After losing their debut to Inter, Monza bounces back immediately by winning with the same score.
After twenty minutes, Roberto Gagliardini nearly scores an incredible goal, as he strikes with his right foot from nearly twenty meters out and hits the crossbar.
Shortly after, Empoli survives in a random manner, with Sebastiano Luperto blocking a shot from Andrea Colpani.
However, no one denies the 1-0 to the latter at the 45th minute when he evades an opponent and brilliantly places the ball into the top corner with his left foot from outside the box.
Empoli shows signs of resurgence at the start of the second half with a shot from Francesco Caputo that Michele Di Gregorio fails to hold, leading to an unfortunate series of rebounds for Empoli.
A few seconds later, Di Gregorio denies Empoli’s equalizer, deflecting Razvan Marin’s powerful shot onto the crossbar.
And so, in the 53rd minute, Monza scores again, once more through Colpani’s header from a left-sided cross. In the final moments, Roberto Piccoli misses the chance to make it 2-1, shooting wide while facing Di Gregorio alone.
