Liverpool visited St. James Park on Sunday afternoon to secure an epic victory against Newcastle, with Darwin Núñez taking the spotlight.

The Uruguayan international came off the bench at the 77th minute, at a time when the home team was already leading 1-0 since the 25th minute, courtesy of a goal by Anthony Gordon.

Additionally, Newcastle was playing with one more player on the field due to Van Dijk’s expulsion in the 28th minute after a foul on Isak in the Reds’ penalty area.

Núñez went on to score twice, leading to a turnaround in the result and securing Liverpool’s second consecutive victory in this edition of the Premier League.

The first half didn’t go well for Jurgen Klopp’s team, but the former Benfica forward provided the right antidote to counter the adversity created by Newcastle in the initial 45 minutes.

In the 81st minute, Núñez received a pass from Diogo Jota, capitalized on an opponent’s mistake, entered the penalty area, and fired with his right foot to equalize the score at 1-1.

Twelve minutes later, during added time, in a remarkably similar move to the first goal, he received a pass from Salah, once again entered the area from the right flank, and unleashed another right-footed shot, beating Pope for the second time and sealing Liverpool’s victory in the third round of the Premier League.
