This morning, Barcelona unveiled its two most recent acquisitions, the Portuguese players João Félix and João Cancelo, both standing on the pitch at the Cidade Desportiva alongside President Joan Laporta.

João Félix, who came from Atlético Madrid, was the first to be introduced, with Deco doing the honors. “From the very first minute, João showed his desire to come to the club. It was a challenging negotiation, but we talked to the coach, and we knew there was a place for him. I believe he can make a significant contribution, providing more options for Xavi, and we will grow as a team with him. I wish him luck and hope he helps us greatly,” Deco stated.

Félix then spoke, saying, “Everyone knows how happy I am to be here. It’s a childhood dream. I watched Barça since I was little, and I’m here to help, to be one more player, and have a great season. It’s a unique feeling, something I’ve been seeking for a long time. When I heard about the interest, I was overjoyed, and with the effort of everyone, it became a reality. Since I was a child, my father, my brother, and I have always been Barça fans, and I had the desire to work to reach the highest level. And here I am. That’s where the passion for this club comes from. I hope it’s a fantastic season; we will fight for titles because this club thrives on greatness. The Champions League is my dream title, and we will do everything to achieve it.”

Next, it was Cancelo’s turn, who was loaned from Manchester City, with President Laporta explaining the effort that had gone into securing his transfer.

“Today, we also introduce João Cancelo, an extraordinarily talented player: a specialist as a right-back that both the coach and the sporting director desired. Cancelo is a winger, a highly versatile player. Despite his young age, he has a lot of experience. He’s been through a lot, gained a wealth of experience. He knows perfectly what the club represents; we’ve already discussed it. And I want to emphasize that he showed an absolute commitment to come here. It’s an operation that perhaps should have been done a long time ago, but today is the day, and I wish him good luck and success. A lot of work went into bringing him here; it wasn’t easy, and many obstacles were overcome.”

Deco also highlighted the effort put in by the player, after weeks of back and forth negotiations. “Bringing a compatriot excites me a lot. We will improve a lot with him in a position we were looking for. With him, we’ll be a more balanced, competitive team, and we’ve been working with the coach to find solutions. If the player hadn’t made an effort, he wouldn’t have come. We tried everything, and here he is. The coach is happy, and he knows that with both ‘Joãos,’ we have more options.”

João Cancelo, too, spoke emotionally about his family: “It’s the fulfillment of a dream. I thank my family, my agent, my mother, who watches me in the sky every day. She knows the club I dreamt of playing for. Those who know me are aware that all my idols played here; it’s a club I identify with a lot – it’s always on the opponent’s field, possessing the ball, it’s the best club for me. I’m very excited; I come with commitment and humility to win titles because this club thrives on it. I like the pressure here, and I hope it’s a season of titles. I will contribute with hard work. I’ve already spoken to some teammates; it’s a fantastic group. I’m looking forward to it.”
