Germany became the first team to qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2024 after defeating Hungary 2-0 in Stuttgart this afternoon, securing their second consecutive win in Group A.

Eager to build on their strong start against Scotland, German coach Julian Nagelsmann opted for the same starting eleven.

Hungary, disappointed with their defensive performance in the loss to Switzerland, made two changes in defense: Adam Lang and Attila Szalai were replaced by Bolla and Dárdai.

Dominant Display by Die Mannschaft

Despite Hungary’s threatening early on, notably saved by Neuer in the opening seconds, Germany quickly asserted control. Florian Wirtz wasn’t as influential as in the previous match, but the likes of Toni Kroos, Ilkay Gundogan, and Jamal Musiala maintained their high standards.

It was Musiala who broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute after a scramble in Hungary’s box, following several earlier chances against Gulácsi’s goal.

Hungary responded with a powerful Szoboszlai free kick, brilliantly saved by Manuel Neuer, showcasing his prowess once again.

Hungary relied on counterattacks, while Germany, led by Musiala’s dynamic play, continued to dominate. In the 67th minute, Gundogan doubled Germany’s lead from a move orchestrated by Musiala and assisted by Mittelstädt.

From there, the match lost its intensity. Hungary struggled to mount a comeback, and Germany, with more space, came close to scoring a third goal—Leroy Sané injected pace into the game after coming off the bench.

Comfortable Victory for Germany

Germany’s victory was comprehensive, signaling that they have overcome recent challenges and are focused on their Euro 2024 campaign. They are the first team to secure their spot in the knockout phase. For Hungary, with zero points from two matches, the situation is dire but not insurmountable.

Man of the Match: Jamal Musiala

Once again, Musiala stood out with another exceptional performance. Despite the official Man of the Match going to Gundogan, Musiala’s influence was undeniable. His goal, involvement in the second goal, and constant threat on Hungary’s defense highlighted his skill and finesse on the field. A standout player for Germany in Euro 2024.
