In a dramatic twist to the Belgian Grand Prix, the FIA has disqualified George Russell, handing the victory to his teammate Lewis Hamilton. The decision came more than two hours after the race concluded.

Russell, who initially crossed the finish line in first place, was found to violate the weight regulations. The 26-year-old’s Mercedes was recorded at just 795.6 kg, falling short of the mandatory minimum weight of 798 kg. As a result, Russell’s win has been officially stripped.

Lewis Hamilton, who finished just 0.6 seconds behind Russell, is now the official winner of the race. This victory marks Hamilton’s third career win in Formula 1, following his triumphs at the Brazilian GP in 2022 and the Austrian GP earlier this season.

The revised results also benefit McLaren’s Oscar Piastri, who moves up to second place, and Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, who claims the final podium spot. Esteban Ocon of Alpine, who originally finished in 11th place, has now earned a point from the race.

The disqualification marks a significant shift in the standings and underscores the stringent compliance requirements in Formula 1. The outcome will certainly be a topic of discussion as the season progresses.
