It was a night to forget for Bruno Fernandes, as the Portuguese international received his first straight red card in his professional career during Manchester United’s 0-3 loss to Tottenham at Old Trafford on Sunday. At 30 years old, Bruno had only been sent off twice before, both for accumulations of yellow cards, but this was his first time seeing a direct red.
The key moment came in the 42nd minute when Bruno caught Tottenham's James Maddison on the shin with his heel. Referee Chris Kavanagh judged the tackle to have endangered Maddison's safety, and much to the disbelief of Fernandes and his teammates, he was shown the red card.
